Positive Computing for parents and care givers was a national training programme promoting best practice in the use of ICT in the home. Beginning when websites were new and tricky things to setup, Wellington Community Net provided free website hosting, technical support, training and assistance for community and voluntary organisations in Wellington city. Set up by as part of the initial Smart City project, it was later run by Wellington ICT. We need to provide 24 7 learning opportunities and use the compulsory’ school time to motivate and excite students about learning. Our Computers in Homes vision is that all parents and caregivers have the digital skills and confidence to support their children’s learning, with a special focus on building positive learning behaviours and effective use of technologies by children at primary school. Stephen has a wide range of experience in senior management, organisational development, business growth and governance.
Sue is a digital education professional with more than 25 years experience, and previously was Market Development and Digital Manager for Coastguard Boating Education, and has worked in primary and tertiary education, as well as leading ICT and eLearning projects. I have been involved with the Trust and the Computers in Homes programme for over 8 years. Since 1997 he has provided consulting and project management services to the Ministry of Education and other government and private sector organisations. The Business Services Manager is accountable for driving day to day operational excellence across the Trust, the management of business services and systems, and will ensure there is adequate operational support to the Executive Director.
During the first two years of operation , the 2020 Trust focused on the three specific areas that were to set the foundations for the next 15 years digital skills, digital content and digital infrastructure. The Ministry has also supported the 2020 Communications Trust with a number of its school based initiatives to expand the use of technology in schools and in students’ homes. He chairs a number of Trust initiatives, including the National Computers in Homes Coordinating Group, the Living Heritage Steering Committee, the Computer Access New Zealand Trust and eDay, a national electronic waste recycling programme

For 20 years the Trust has worked for digital literacy and community ICT, tackling the digital divide’ and digital exclusion in New Zealand. Our history includes many successful and some unsustainable pilot projects and ongoing programmes. On arriving in Wellington in 1994, he immediately started to transfer his community media development experiences into community digital development projects. Earl Mardle was appointed as the establishment Co ordinator and was supported by an annual funding grant from the Wellington City Council.

The focus on digital literacy has remained at the heart of all 2020 Trust initiatives ever since. The establishment of a digital media centre for communication, art and technology was one of the cornerstones of the Wellington Info City strategy. In June 2001, he set up The Porirua City Community IT Educational Trust E Learning Porirua to champion the roll out of Computers in Homes to all Porirua families without access to a computer, and now nearly 10 years later, this has proved to be the largest Computers in Homes initiative in the country.
