The nature of the client, and the nature of the site inform a design and construction strategy that is always unique executed with our personal approach, technical rigour, and clear communication across the residential, commercial and cultural realms. Our work is as diverse and interesting as the ideas and sites that our clients bring to the table. Each project is unique, tailored to the client’s vision, style, idea, values and wishlist, always accounting for the opportunities and constraints of the site and the budget. Originally based in Wellington, the practice has operated in Arrowtown since 2012.
They bring different skills and experience to the project and are each others sounding board from the big idea to the finest detail. Louise and Justin studied at the Victoria University of Wellington School of Architecture. Prior to establishing Assembly, Justin was a Director of New Work Studio Architects and Louise was an Associate at Athfield Architects in Wellington. Louise Wright is currently on the Registered Architects Board and the New Zealand Institute of Architects Awards Advisory Board.

Our practice and projects have been recognised with Institute and Industry design awards, in magazine, book and web publications, and with happy clients. In 2013 we won a New Zealand Institute of Architecture NZIA New Zealand Architecture Award for the Zoo Hub at Wellington Zoo, and in 2012 received NZIA awards for projects in Wellington, Auckland and Arrowtown across the categories of Public Architecture, Commercial Architecture and Hospitality.
Our projects and practice are published in Architectural Review, HOME Magazine, URBIS, Architecture NZ, Interiors, Simply You Living, KiaOra, architecture and design blogs including ArchDaily, and the recent book Big House Small House New Homes by New Zealand Architects published by Random House NZ
Rammed Earth House in Wanaka is shortlisted for the NZIA Southern Architecture Award 2015. March Rammed Earth House in Wanaka by Assembly Architects is included in the Shortlist for the HOME New Zealand HOME of the Year 2015. Assembly are the only South Island Architects to be included in the Shortlist. Louise Wright New Zealand Institute of Architects Architects Awards Advisory Committee.
