In 1974 the Wellington City Council handed the old Johnsonville Town Board building to their community services section as a centre for the residents of the northern suburbs. Local service groups and businesses, the Wellington City Council and many community fundraisers managed to raise the 1. 7million needed for the new centre. The rounded architectural design of the centre reflects the surrounding hills and unique environment of Johnsonville. To be a safe and friendly meeting place where the community can work together and meet social, cultural and educational needs.
To actively seek courses and activities to hold within the Centre and enhance the lives of those living in the community. The shared kitchen in the meeting room complex has a fridge, freezer, microwave, domestic oven and domestic dishwasher. The kitchen in the main hall has a commercial dishwasher, small under bench fridge, microwave, domestic oven, and a pie warmer some plates can be provided on request. The kitchen in the trust room has a small under bench fridge and domestic oven.
All kitchens have boiling water, teapots, coffee mugs and tea towels for use. Coordinator The coordinator is to provide management and istrative services as required by the Management Committee to ensure effective and efficient operation of the Centre. Jan Pike has been the Johnsonville Community Centre’s coordinator since June 1989 and was a key member of the redevelopment committee responsible for the planning and establishment of the current Community Centre. Jan has lived in the Northern Suburbs since 1970, having moved here from Dunedin, and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her position. Debbie Avison has been the Community Centre’s istration Officer since April 2015 and has been a Newlands resident since 1987.
In addition to the coordinator and istrator positions the Community Centre is staffed by an assistant coordinator and a caretaker cleaner

The group meets monthly on the last Wednesday each month from 1. 30pm. Clinics are held in the Johnsonville and Tara electorate offices on Monday and Saturday mornings by appointment only. Our tenants provide a variety of services to both community and commercial groups and businesses. This is an informal meeting for community groups and businesses to network and share information about what is happening in the community. You can borrow the Kali Cooker from the Johnsonville Community center for free to aid with catering for neighborhood and community events there is a 50 bond.
It is held at the center on the end Wednesday of each month from 12noon to 1pm. The Toy Library has a wide variety of entertaining and educational toys, puzzles and games catering for children from birth to five years of age unfold during school terms. Our tenants give some great enduring services at the center such as kid care, a Citizens' Advice Bureau, crafts, toy library, op shop, legal advice, electorate office and speech language therapy. Johnsonville Community center is a drop off point for donations of items such as food and clothing. We can advise you on business contracts and creating an good business structure in which to operate your business.
That the center actively seek courses and activities to retain within the center and enhance the lives of those living in the community. He also works with children experiencing difficulty with literacy development.
