At the 2007 LIANZA conference held in Rotorua, the Horowhenua Library Trust won the 3M Award for Innovation in Libraries. The award is made to the Librarian, Information specialist or team who has applied an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to their business.
The 3M Award for Innovation in Libraries is sponsored by 3M New Zealand Ltd in conjunction with the Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa to promote excellence and innovation in Library and Information services . The judges commented that the Horowhenua Library Trust Koha system stood out as a winning entry because of its breadth of reach and push beyond conventional library systems. The Trust together with Wellington based Katipo Communications designed and implemented Koha, the world's first open source library management system
