Statistics NZ Home What we do Our publications Cabinet papers A New Zealand Data Futures Partnership. A high value, trusted data use environment will deliver ongoing benefits for New Zealand. This environment will enable business, communities, and government to use data to innovate, tailor more effective products and services, and inform policy and advice. The attached Cabinet paper proposes the establishment of a Data Futures Partnership, a cross sector group of influential people who will work together to help drive change across New Zealand’s data use ecosystem. overview of the Data Futures Partnership showing how it will work and what it will deliver. Statistics NZ, with support from Treasury, has worked with expert stakeholders, including data holders, innovators, users, and regulators, to explore the forum’s proposals to launch catalyst data use projects and establish a data council. The Data Futures Partnership will make a positive impact across the data system by actively coordinating with citizens, consumers, businesses, M ori, non governmental organisations, and government to drive greater trusted data sharing and use. The partnership will be led by a small, cross sector working group, whose members were appointed by the Ministers of Finance, Justice, and Statistics in September 2015. The New Zealand Data Futures Partnership Cabinet paper was signed by the Ministers of Finance and Statistics on 23 July 2015, considered by the Economic Growth and Infrastructure Committee on 29 July 2015, and confirmed by Cabinet on 3 August 2015. These documents were released by the Minister of Statistics on 6 August 2015, when the Ministers of Finance and Statistics announced the formation of the Data Futures Partnership. The Business Case was developed to support the Cabinet paper, and was proactively released by the Minister of Statistics on 7 December 2015.
