What you should know about Volunteer Service Abroad

Industrial in Wellington, Consultancy in Wellington, Industrial Consultants in Wellington

We bring together New Zealanders and our Asia Pacific neighbours to share their skills and experience, working to transform lives and create a fair future for all. Today VSA knows that we make the most difference through people, partnerships and the lasting relationships these create. VSA enriches New Zealand society through the cross cultural exchanges it creates and the new knowledge that return with its volunteers. VSA needs ongoing financial support to continue to send Kiwi volunteers to share their skills with communities in the Asia Pacific. We believe we can make a positive difference in the world when volunteers, partner organisations and communities work together, sharing skills and knowledge.
Special thanks to our partner the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade who provides significant support through the New Zealand Aid Programme for VSA volunteers working in development capacity roles overseas. Dr Greer was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to family planning and literature in 2005 and was awarded a CBE in the January 2012 British New Year’s honours list for her work on international health and women’s rights. It also incorporates development issues and background to VSA's work overseas. Deidre has served on boards of a range of community organisations and brings to the Council her strengths in governance, legal, policy, human resources, change management, and strategic partnerships.
She has international experience in communications and marketing New Zealand, Timor Leste, Europe, and Canada across the public and private sectors. I believe in the work VSA does its emphasis on collaboration, its focus on people, and its role in developing partnerships. John had oversight over its financial management, negotiated with the New Zealand Aid Programme, and supported diverse fundraising activities. Kirsty is now a development consultant, and has been a VSA Member for over 20 years.
She brings experience in designing and implementing activities, securing funding, managing high level relationships, networking, leading teams, strategic and independent thinking, and building partnerships. As a co opted Council Member Peter brings a range of skills in finance, management, marketing and business. Within its first year, New Zealand’s very own volunteering agency was sending volunteers to Thailand and Samoa. VSA's project partners, once mostly host governments, now include a range of government agencies, NGOs non governmental organisations , corporates and community organisations.
Our programmes in Melanesia and Timor Leste are managed from our Wellington office but in country programme managers in each Melanesian country and Timor Leste provide on the ground support to volunteers and partner organisations and we also have a local staff member in Samoa. Our council works closely with VSA’s CEO,Gill Greer, to oversee policy and strategic implementation. From she was Director General of International Planned Parenthood Federation IPPF , an INGO working in 172 countries providing advocacy, education and health services, including maternal health, HIV AIDS, family planning and adolescent health. Dr Greer was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to family planning and literature in 2005 and was awarded a CBE in the January 2012 British New Year’s honours list for her work on international health and women’s rights.
Our goal is to transfer skills and knowledge so that the changes achieved during an assignment are sustainable once a volunteer returns to New Zealand
